Women's Health Has a Shaky Foundation in Medicine

There’s a well-known statistic in the health insurance industry that women are the top decision makers or primary influencer when companies or households are purchasing a healthcare plan. Yet with increasing regularity, dialogue in and about the medical world points to all the ways in which the current fact base, practices and beliefs of medical practitioners shortchange women, among other groups. Needless to say, women also account for more or less half the population. One wonders what the impact on lives, costs and well being look like when you scratch below this surface. At the very least, is it so surprising that women more frequently than men are believed to research health issues for themselves?
