Protecting Their Own

The L.A. Times has produced multiple articles recently covering the ways in which the California Medical Association protects doctors and puts consumers/patients at risk in the process. These include an Essential California newsletter dated July 15th featuring an analysis of the California Medical Board’s actions since 2008; an article titled “Critics Assail Doctors’ Cartel” covering the California Medical Association’s opposition to reform, dated July 19th; and a feature on August 1st telling the story of Wendy Knecht, a patient whose surgery resulted in nerve damage and chronic pain. She is fighting for greater consumer transparency on physician conflicts of interest.
